THE STORY BEHIND VILDRA

Why VILDRA exists

VILDRA did not begin as an abstract business idea. It grew from our own travels.

My wife, our three children and I have visited many places because a house, an accommodation or its surroundings spoke to us. We arrived, had a wonderful time — and often left again without knowing what there was to discover nearby.

After many journeys together, we finally fulfilled a dream: a Swedish house in the forest near Gnarp.

Since then, we have returned there as a family again and again. And although we now know the region well, we discover something new on almost every stay.

A small swimming spot. A quiet path through the forest. A farm shop by the roadside. A local celebration. A special viewpoint. Or something offered by people in the region that is hardly, if at all, found online.

It made us realise how much remains hidden from a guest spending only a few days in one place.

Many regions are expansive. Information is scattered across many sites, available only in the local language or not recorded online at all. The best-known sights are easy to find. But the small, personal and authentic experiences are often discovered only by returning, getting to know people and gradually understanding a place.

VILDRA grew from that experience

VILDRA is meant to close this gap.

The platform does not begin with the question:

“Where should I travel?”

It begins with:

“I am staying here — what can I genuinely experience around this place?”

The accommodation is the starting point. VILDRA discovers places, experiences and practical possibilities nearby. Hosts add what only people with personal local knowledge can know: their favourite places, experiences, notes and small insider tips.

The result is a guide that helps guests experience a place more authentically, more broadly and more personally from their very first visit.

What we believe

The most valuable travel experiences are not always the best known.

They are often the unassuming places we remember later: an evening swim, a small farm shop, a path without a signpost or a meeting with people from the region.

VILDRA should make these possibilities visible without taking away their personality.

An accommodation is often why we choose a place. What we discover there is why we remember it — and perhaps return again and again.
